Course Information

Courses for Adults
We have designed a varied programme to suit all levels of cook, with day-time, weekend and evening options.

Each course is 100% hands-on, with students working in small groups, encouraging a fun and sociable atmosphere, and culminating in a communal meal.  All students leave with a full recipe pack.

Please click on Courses for Adults to find specific course information, dates and prices.

NB – There is no on site parking, so students are encouraged to use public transport or to come by bike, however, there is a car park located across the road at Cambridge Leisure, and some parking in residential roads off Hills Road.

Children’s Courses
You are never too young to start cooking, in fact the younger the better in order to plant the seeds of enthusiasm for home cooking and also for ensuring a wide, varied and healthy diet.

Our classes for children are run by experienced chefs who know just how to teach young people real cookery skills. We offer fun, hands-on and educational classes for children as young as 5, going up to 15 with more advanced classes. Year 10 & 11 students may also benefit from our Food for Life courses, details of which can be found by clicking on the Courses for Teenagers button.

We run holiday and weekend courses with themes including Pasta making, Bread making, Picnic food, Cooking for your Family and Professional cake making.

We also arrange popular Birthday parties either at the Cookery school or in private homes. Party themes include Italian food, Whoopee Pies, Advanced Cup Cakes and Pasta Master Classes. We are happy to create packages that take care of everything from invites to goodie bags, including personalised aprons.

Courses for Teenagers – Food for Life
We believe that giving teenagers and young adults a solid foundation in a full range of cookery skills is essential for their future health and happiness. We have created a bespoke course – Food for Life that runs as a 2-day intensive course, a 12-week evening course and 1-week residential courses to fit in with D of E awards as well as college curricula. Food for Life covers:

  • how to cook simple, cheap, but delicious food
  • how food affects well-being, fitness and brain power
  • how to shop smart and budget for a week’s food
  • how to cook and eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables
  • how to be an eco-friendly and ethical cook

We also have one-off courses focusing on particular skills and types of food e.g Cake making and baking. Please click on Courses for Teenagers to view current courses or book a course.

Cambridge University Students
Each autumn we run a fun evening course for newly arrived university students on cooking in a basic kitchen (Gyp Cooking). In addition to setting you up for some simple but great tasting cooking when all you have is a gas ring and a micro wave, it works well as a social network too as you’ll meet other new students.

Graduate and post graduate students with a real interest in food also enjoy courses from our general adult programme, such as Seasonal Italian, Bread Making or Fish cooking. Please click on Courses for Adults to find out more about these classes.
